Red River Valley

By Shannon Sargent

We went to the races one fine, clear night. A horse named Red River Valley was running. I loved that horse so much. My mom and I had bet a bundle on him -- he was a longshot.

He was running in dead last through the mud. At the very end, we heard "Red River Valley explodes to the front!" and he won in an incredible display of heart. We won $175.55 off of a single win wager.
