Watch the medication
By Basil Frazier
When trying to handicap from just the form, one of the first things
I look for is any horse that might be running on Lasix for the first time.
Now being on medication for the first time isn't the only criteria.
He must have run enough times to establish a form or style of running,
and have had at least one decent workout (4 furlongs or better) since his
last race. This tells me that the workout was with medication,
and he knows that he won't bleed when giving his best effort.
If he shows no workout, then chances are that he won't give his best
because of the experience of bleeding in one or more of his races.
And, of course, a class drop adds to his chances.
